Hello

Hello and Welcome to Reach New Hikes.

 

I started walking in 1966 - at 9 months old, I was an early walker! 58 years later, walking is so much more to me than putting one foot in front of the other.   Whatever hobbies and interests I have had over the years - walking and hiking has been the one constant passion throughout my life.

The benefits of this simple activity are huge!   

  • It is free

  • It can reduce stress - an after work walk helps get rid of the stresses of the day

  • It is a great form of exercise and a way to maintain a healthy weight

  • It improves sleep

  • It can bring out the explorer in you - discovering new places to explore on foot

  • It helps improve your mood - everything feels better after a good walk

  • It has numerous health benefits - just 30 minutes a day can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat and boost endurance

  • ........ and that is just a few of the many benefits

For me, I have walked to think, to dream, to cry and to create.  I have walked out a bad mood, a sad mood and to celebrate.  I walk alone, with friends, in groups on guided walks and with my partner.  I have walked the length and breadth of the UK, European coastal towns and cities, and more recently New Zealand and I have so many more walks to do.

​

I am a trained walk leader, and mental health first aider and a huge advocate of the benefits of 'walking and talking'.

My Story

Why I have started Reach New Hikes in 2024.......

 

This website is a labour of love, created to combine my passions for walking, writing and photographing all I see.  This site will be filled with walks I have completed,  travel pieces and blogs about the adventures and experiences I am having as I split my time across the UK and New Zealand. 

 

The features are my own words and photography and I hope an inspiration to those of you who love the outdoors, hiking, travel, nature, food and new experiences.

​

The aim of the website is to promote the outdoors, life experiences and living across two hemispheres, along with a healthy 'real life' view of the ups and downs of this adventure.

​

I hope it will grow and evolve as my adventures unfold and I will be delighted if you come along for the ride and follow me here and on Instagram for daily updates.
